Halloween is upon us, and that means it’s time for something spooky in Episode 9. We look at ranking our top five scariest characters…from non-horror movies. Sure, it’d be more Halloween-ish to talk horror films, but that’s not our thing, so we’ll leave that one to the experts. On this list, we discuss some of our childhood movie fears and also how most scary characters are born from really great performances. Let us know what you think of our list! Which characters freak you out the most? Post in the comments section or find us on Twitter at @rankophiles.

  1. Guy, guys, guys…. I’m holding my head in my hands…
On this episode, which I enjoyed, you name two female characters: The Wicked Witch of the West, and Nurse Ratched. In the first example, although you say it was a wonderful performance, you neglect to mention the wonderful actress (that’s what they were called back then) who played her, Margaret Hamilton, in the role of her career, which nearly killed her when they accidentally set her on fire. In the second case, you credit Louise Thatcher, but Nurse Ratched was played by Louise Fletcher, in her career role, which nearly ruined her career because of typecasting. Ok… I’m done…
(And, FYI, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest was one of only three movies in history to win all top 5 Oscars, the others are It Happened One Night (1934), the mother of all Rom/Coms, and Silence of the Lambs, which I can’t watch all the way through!)

    1. Okay, Jan! You’re invited to our next episode to be our fact checker and all around movie trivia buff. You’re welcome!
